Growth & Justice is a leading progressive voice on state economic issues. The non-partisan organization, founded by former Star Tribune Editor Joel Kramer, advocates for fair taxation and "smart" public investment that advances prosperity for all Minnesotans. Dane Smith was named as the president of Growth and Justice in 2007 after concluding a 30-year career as a reporter first with the St. Paul Pioneer Press and later with the Star Tribune. During his time as a reporter, tax fairness and the issues surrounding government's proper role in society were among his favorite issues. Smith is co-author of the book, Professor Wellstone Goes to Washington: The Inside Story of a Grassroots U.S. Senate Campaign. He grew up in Alaska and is a U.S. Navy veteran.
